“Taigh Tearlach” is Scottish Gaelic for “Charlie's House”, a modern 2-bedroom self-catering holiday home in Kyleakin, Isle of Skye.

It sleeps 4 guests plus a baby, has a log burning stove, free WiFi, laundry facilities, and a shed for secure storage of bikes and kayaks.

There is a bedroom with a double bed and a second bedroom with single bunk beds.

Taigh Tearlach is a semi-detached house.

From the garden gate, there is a stunning woodland walk with breathtaking views of the Isle of Skye Bridge.

Taigh Tearlach is a very easy walk to cafes and restaurants in Kyleakin, or a short walk over the Skye Bridge to a greater range of facilities in Kyle of Lochalsh, on the mainland. The facilities here include banks, a post office, a swimming pool and a supermarket where you can stock up on all you need for your self-catering holiday on Skye.

Kyleakin is the first village on the Isle of Skye, and so staying at a holiday home in this location means that you are ideally situated for exploring the mainland with the iconic Eilean Donan Castle and stunning Applecross peninsula as well as all the magical attractions on the Isle of Skye itself, including the Quirang, The Old Man of Storr, the Fairy Glen, the Fairy Pools, Kilt Rock and Neist Point.

Taigh Tearlach is in Kyleakin, the first village on Skye when you cross the Skye Bridge.

When you drive over the Skye Bridge, drive straight through the roundabout. This is Old Kyle Farm Road.

Taigh Tearlach is the first house on the right and is just beyond the red post box.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Telephone or e-mail bookings will be provisionally held for three days, after which time they will be cancelled if not secured by a deposit.
  2. A deposit of 30% is required to secure a booking.
  3. The balance to be paid 4 weeks before arrival date. For bookings made less than 4 weeks in advance, full payment is required at the time of booking.  A £100 refundable “good housekeeping deposit” is required at the same time as the balance of 70%/full payment.  The £100 will be returned in full if the property is left tidy and without damage caused by guests.
  4. If you cancel your holiday within 4 full weeks of your arrival date, your deposit and balance/full payment will only be returned if an alternative renter can be found.  Your £100 housekeeping will be returned in full.  If you cancel your holiday more than 4 weeks from your arrival date then your monies will be returned in full.
  5. If the property cannot be made available for the period booked due to events beyond the owner's control and the booking is cancelled, the whole of the hire charge will be refunded and the hirer will have no further claim against the owner.
  6. Payment methods are by cheque, cash, Paypal or BACS.  A standard extra payment of £20 is charged for any holiday paid for by paypal in order to cover charges incurred.
  7. Period of hire starts 4pm on day of arrival and ends at 10am on day of departure.  Hire is on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday.  During low season, short breaks are available with the exception of Christmas and New Year periods where weekly lets apply.  Failure to vacate the property on the agreed day at the agreed time will result in additional charges and any consequential losses if the next renter decides to withdraw.
  8. Sorry, no dogs are permitted.
  9. “Taigh Tearlach” is a non-smoking establishment.
  10. No more than four people plus one baby are to occupy the property.
  11. Clients are asked to respect all furniture, fittings and equipment and to report any breakages or damage promptly so that it may be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.  Any damage to the property or contents during the stay will require appropriate compensation from the renter. Normally anything under £10 will not incur.
  12. The wood burning stove must be operated with the door closed for fire safety. Furniture must must not be pulled close to the stove and no materials should be placed on the stove, stove guard or heaters at any time because of fire risk.
  13. Owners reserve the right to enter the property to carry out an inspection or repairs.
  14. The owners have no liability for any death, personal injury or damage or loss of personal property.
  15. The renter is responsible for any material downloaded from the internet at the property during the period of occupation of the property.
  16. The property is in a residential area and guests are asked to be behave in a manner mindful of neighbours’ rights.  No parties are permitted and guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.  If check-in is very late, guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum.
  17. Barbecues are not permitted on the decking.

Other points to note:

  • The bedrooms are upstairs.
  • The shower is over the bath.
  • There is no stair gate.
  • A small stream runs just outside the garden.
  • There is no railing to the decking.
  • The decking can be slippery when wet.
  • Children under the age of 6 should not sleep in the top bunk.
  • The garden gate leads directly to a woodland walk.
  • There is restricted access at the bottom of the double bed.
  • Guests are asked to take care walking around the hearth stone as it protrudes further than the fire guard.

This is a really great place, comfortable, fully kitted out with everything you need and nicely decorated. It’s in a quiet area, with a few restaurants close by. You can literally walk out the back garden onto a woodland walk with some great views.
We were three adults who stayed here for two nights, and would gladly have stayed for longer. The bunk beds were comfortable and large enough for an adult.
Shauna herself is a lovely person, great communication and very informative. Gave us a few great recommendations and stayed in contact when we needed it.
I will be keeping this place in mind when I head back to Skye and would highly recommend this place as somewhere to stay.

I stayed here with my parents and husband for 2 nights and it was lovely. The house is well equipped and clean and in a great location. Shauna was very helpful. I’d definitely recommend this place.

The house was described, freshly renovated, very modern and cosy. House is located just after Skye Bridge so it was handy for travel either East or West of the island. The area is peaceful and quiet with some shops 10 minutes walk distance. Highly recommended.

Shauna is a friendly host who keeps a very neat and clean cottage. It was a great starting location for exploring Skye. And a nice spot to relax after a day of wandering.

Shauna’s place is so lovely! My family of three stayed here and loved having room to spread out and have privacy. It has everything you could need for your stay and there is a co-op very close by to pick up food and other essentials. The home was very nicely decorated and spotless. Shauna was such a pleasure to seal with and made everything so easy. What a great experience!

This beautiful house in the picturesque Kyleakin is a great spot to discover the Isle of Skye. Everything was very well communicated by Shauna. We were awaited by a well equipped and modern house with a little garden. We totally loved our stay in the house.
